We have read Lauren Belfer's best seller "City of Light." This riveting mystery is a chronicle of Western New York's glorious history, and a verbal panorama of its natural and architectural beauty. Hollywood and Western New York should do each other a favor and make a movie of this book.
Hollywood could produce an exciting thriller and Western New York could showcase its unique treasures: the Buffalo Historical Society, (site of the Pan American Exposition), Hoyt Lake, Marcy Casino, the Olmsted Parks, Forest Lawn, the Buffalo Club, the Roycroft Campus in East Aurora, the wonders of Niagara Falls and so much more. Additionally, while a period piece, the story contains many themes that are relevant today -- politics, labor and race relations, human rights and the role of women in society.
Our elected officials should seize this golden opportunity to focus the world's attention on all this region has to offer and encourage Hollywood to put this story on the silver screen and film it on location in Western New York. Movies have been made here successfully in the past. And how about our own award-winning actress, Christine Baranski, in the part of Louisa? She has been one of the area's most vocal boosters.
Here's our chance to show the world a true picture of our beautiful, historic home. Let's not let it slip away.
