I was a lifelong Democrat until last year, when I broke rank and joined the Independence Party. I liked what I thought the party stood for -- "politics not as usual" -- and I liked Tom Golisano's message. As a matter of fact, the first political sign I ever allowed on my front lawn was a "Golisano for Governor" sign.
Believing in the democratic process, I was excited about the prospect of a primary for county executive on our line. Therefore, I was surprised by Golisano's endorsement of the current county executive.
I was under the impression that a primary meant no endorsements by party bosses. Yet here he was, my former hero, breaking one of his cardinal rules and playing "politics as usual." What a disappointment.
I left the Democratic Party because of bossism and joined the Independence Party.
I thought I had a home with the Independence folks, but now I see signs of Democratitis -- severe inflammation of the ego, very bad TV ads, tired blood and acute longevity.
