BANK ROBBER MAY BE A REPEAT OFFENDER

Local police agencies and the FBI are trying to determine whether a woman who held up the Fleet Bank on Delaware Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda Monday afternoon is the same woman sought in a rash of other local bank robberies.

"At this point, we're not sure it's the same person," Town of Tonawanda Assistant Police Chief Robert Rowland said today.

Town police and the FBI planned to study the bank's surveillance photo, which shows a woman in a baseball cap standing in front of the teller. The woman escaped with an undetermined amount of money after handing the teller a note and displaying what appeared to be a handgun in her purse, Town of Tonawanda police said.

The robbery occurred at about 1:45 p.m. at the bank, located at 3588 Delaware Ave., near Sheridan Drive.
