Four school districts in Amherst and Clarence are planning their second joint venture to recruit substitute teachers, according to Daniel George, director of personnel for the Clarence schools.
The Williamsville, Amherst, Sweet Home and Clarence districts will conduct a recruitment fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Wick Center at Daemen College, 4380 Main St., Snyder. George said the districts' first cooperative venture, held in January, added 88 names to Clarence's substitute list.
He said the fair temporarily ended a sub shortage, but some individuals added to the list have since found employment or moved out of the area.
Substitutes are needed in all subject areas, George said. Qualifications include possession of or application for a New York State teacher certificate or 60 hours of college credit and current enrollment for at least 6 semester hours in a program leading to certification.
Last October, the four districts formed a consortium to share their experiences and discuss possible solutions to the substitute shortage.
