The Tampa Bay Lightning has changed much of its roster since finishing last in the National Hockey League's overall standing last season. The Buffalo Sabres must have been a little impressed by what the Lightning has done after seeing it play in a preseason game here Saturday night.

The Lightning took a 5-2 victory over the Sabres in the Gund Arena. The loss dropped Buffalo's preseason record to 0-1-1.

Tampa Bay received goals from five players as the Lightning never trailed. Robert Petrovicky, Alexandre Daigle, Mike McBain, Stephane Richer and Vincent Lacavalier had the Tampa Bay scores. Sabres' goalie Mika Noronen played the first two periods, while Martin Biron finished up.

For Buffalo, Michael Peca had a goal and an assist. The other Sabre scorer was Maxim Afinogenov, who is one of the team's more promising rookies. Buffalo had a 38-31 edge in shots.

The same two teams will play tonight in Erie, Pa. Starting time is 6 p.m. Buffalo's only home preseason game will be on Friday against the Washington Capitals.
