The city has saved $49,920 on its electric bills since December by purchasing power from an energy marketer, Mayor Kenneth D. Swan announced Friday.
Swan released a letter he received from Energy Enterprises Inc., the city's power consultant, announcing savings of $8,988 for July and August. "It's not the same every month," said Energy Enterprises president William R. Green.
His letter said, "During the summer months you would normally expect the savings to drop because of the high cost of summer power. We were able to negotiate a purchase agreement with New York State Electric & Gas . . . at an unusually good rate. As a result, (the city's) savings are dramatically higher for this period than they have been in the past several months."
