The children's room of the Patterson Library, South Portage Street, will be dedicated at 3 p.m. n Oct. 26.
A reception, from 2 to 5 p.m., will include self-guided tours.
Also, author Peter Roop will sign copies of his book, "Grace's Letter to Lincoln," which also will be for sale. Musician Kent Knappenberger and students from the Centerstage Dance Studio will entertain.
The lower level of the building has been designed as Patterson Park, a colorful interactive space for children.
The new space has twice the area for books, a storytime area for library programs and a computer center. The children's room had been part of the main library's first floor.
The lower level currently is completed, with an upgrade of the heating and ventilation system, a kitchenette, staff and group meeting area. A new mezzanine and book shelving also have been completed.
