Eugene J. Archie, 84, of Walnut Street, a retired store attendant at Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors Corp., died Wednesday (Sept. 15, 1999) in Lockport Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He worked for 32 years at Harrison before his retirement in 1975. He was a member of United Autoworkers Local 686 Retirees Club.
An avid musician, he was a 50-year member of Local 97, American Federation of Musicians. He also was a 50-year member and a third-degree member of Lockport Council 319, Knights of Columbus.
He was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and served as an usher. He also was a member of Aerie 825, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Lock City Lodge 617, Loyal Order of Moose.
He swam a half-mile daily at the former Zwicker Aquatic Club.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, the former Violet DeVoe; a son, Walter of Hong Kong; two daughters, Beverly Honeyman and Patricia Carson; a sister, Margaret Ryan of California; and six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut St., after prayers at 9:30 in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St. Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.
