WORKER AT FORD PLANT SUFFERS ELECTRICAL SHOCK

An Alden woman was in serious condition this morning after she was shocked by a 440-volt electrical line Wednesday afternoon while working at the Ford Motor Co. Stamping Plant in Woodlawn.

Deborah Bateman, 45, suffered burns to the upper part of her body, including arms and head. She was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center.

Hamburg police said the accident occurred at about 2:10 p.m. Kathleen Hamilton, a company spokeswoman, said a machine at the plant malfunctioned, and a male co-worker, who was not identified, was treated for minor injuries by medical personnel at the plant.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate.

The Stamping Plant employs about 2,000 and makes components for the Crown Victoria sedan, Windstar minivan,
F-Series trucks and other vehicles.
