John Wayne Bobbitt dodged a jail sentence Tuesday and was put on probation for his part in a scheme to steal clothes from a store.
Bobbitt, 32, who now lives in Niagara Falls, and five co-defendants had pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny and other charges in a plea bargain. An estimated $140,000 was stolen from a store that since has closed.
Judge Archie Blake put Bobbitt on probation for five years and ordered him to pay $5,000 restitution.
Bobbitt said he didn't know the clothing had been stolen.
Bobbitt made headlines in 1993 when his then-wife, Lorena, cut off his penis at their apartment in Manassas, Va. She drove off in a fury and tossed the severed organ out the car window. It later was reattached.
Bobbitt said Tuesday he hasn't spoken to her since.
