The Common Council Wednesday gave Deputy Corporation Counsel P. Andrew Vona permission to make a new contract offer to the city's department heads, who have formed a union. Vona said minor issues have been settled, but salaries haven't.
The Council also:
Made official the city's long-standing policy that if a city-owned tree root damages a sidewalk, the city will remove the tree and repair the sidewalk, but if it's a private tree, the property owner has to make the repairs.
Ratified last month's auction sale of the former Meekins-McKinnon Corp. warehouse at 378 Niagara St. to Hilger Properties for $128,519.
Awarded two Altro Park contracts: $33,045 to C.F. Wolcott Excavating of Lockport for drainage work, and $8,910 to City Fence of Amherst for a baseball backstop.
Appropriated $2,013 to buy an advertisement in next year's county Visitor Guide.
