A Jamestown police officer reportedly was in critical condition after being shot in the face Wednesday night.

The officer, identified as David Mitchell, was assigned to the Southern Tier Drug Task Force. He reportedly was shot on a street corner about 9 p.m. during a drug buy-bust operation. Police were searching for an 18-year-old who lives in Jamestown as a possible suspect and police in Western New York were on the lookout for a white passenger vehicle driven by a man.

The wounded officer was taken to WCA Hospital in Jamestown, where he was being treated in the emergency room. A source described his condition as critical.
