Mamie L. Waters, a former vice president of the Rainbow Senior Citizens Club and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church choir, died Sunday (Sept. 12, 1999) in the Schoellkopf Health Center after a long illness. She was 83.
The former Mamie Cook was born in Greenville, Ala.
She worked for the Carborundum Co. in the 1940s and had also worked as a domestic for various households.
Mrs. Waters was later employed as a kitchen aide at Niagara University, until her retirement in 1981.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she was in the senior choir and served on the kitchen committee.
Mrs. Waters was an avid gardener. She also enjoyed arts and crafts.
Her husband, Henry Sr., died in 1964.
Mrs. Waters is survived by five daughters, the Rev. Grace Johnson, Laura L. Porter, Shirley Ann Farrell, Brenda Caldwell and Vickie Waters; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Trinity Baptist Church, 15th Street and South Avenue. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery.
