"A New Look for the Next Millennium" was the theme when St. Bonaventure University unveiled its new athletics image Tuesday in the Reilly Center. The unveiling took place at noon with university president Dr. Robert J. Wickenheiser, interim director of athletics Barbara Hick and associate director of athletics Derek Morel on hand.
The Bonnies' new primary logo, which will be displayed on team uniforms, depicts a fierce wolf in motion over the words "St. Bonaventure Bonnies." A secondary mark is a glaring wolf in a design that includes the word "Bonnies."
Although the wolf was adopted as the new Bona mascot, the school's teams will continue to be referred to as the Bonnies.
The old nickname "Brown Indians" was phased out earlier this decade. Since 1994, Bona teams have used the "Bonnies B" logo, but the school wanted a more dynamic, recognizable set of marks to project the energy of St. Bonaventure sports teams.
The new logos were created by SME Design of New York.
