A 20-year teacher in the Lake Shore School District was arrested on sexual-abuse charges as a result of complaints from four of his students, Angola village police said.
David Schmittendorf, 48, of Norwood Drive, Hamburg, was taken into custody by Sgt. Jeff Hicks on two felony and four misdemeanor charges.
Schmittendorf, a teacher at J.T. Waugh Intermediate School, was suspended with pay in June when the allegations were made, Police Chief Patrick Puckhaber said.
The investigation continued through the summer, and the arrest was made today after negotiations with Schmittendorf's lawyer and the district attorney's office broke down, the chief said.
Hicks, who investigated the case, charged Schmittendorf with two counts of felony sexual abuse, two misdemeanor counts and four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
