Rita A. Whalen of Lackawanna, who worked at Our Lady of Victory Hospital for 27 years, died Sunday (Sept. 12, 1999) in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a brief illness. She was 78.
The former Rita Dauer was a 1938 graduate of Our Lady of Victory Academy and a lifelong resident of Lackawanna.
She retired in 1995 from the hospital, where she had worked in the pharmacy department.
She was a member of the Court of Monsignor Baker, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Upper Classmen Senior Citizens.
Her husband, Thomas A. Jr., died in 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet of Hamburg; two sons, Ronald of Lackawanna and Douglas of West Seneca; two brothers, Joseph P. Dauer and Robert F. Dauer, both of West Seneca; a sister, Marion C. Dauer of Lackawanna; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Lombardo Funeral Home, S-3060 Abbott Road, Orchard Park, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Our Lady of Victory Basilica, Ridge Road and South Park Avenue, Lackawanna. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hamburg.
