Flames leveled a two-story house at 171 King Road early Monday afternoon.

"The porch end of the house was fully-involved when we first arrived at the scene," Assistant Fire Chief Frank Kibelsbeck said. There "was heavy smoke as we were coming down the highway towards the location."

Kibelsbeck said a neighbor spotted the fire and called in the alarm about 1 p.m. The family was out of town. Kibelsbeck said there was no chance to salvage anything.

"It was probably next to impossible to try to save it because it had a real good start. It was an older wooden building, and due to the isolated area it had a really good head start."

The cause is under investigation.
