A Linden Avenue woman lost her left leg below the knee in a motorcycle crash that also injured the driver and closed the Skyway late Saturday and early Sunday.
The victim, Faith Kosmicki, 31, was riding southbound on Route 5 on a motorcycle driven by James Castiglia, 31, of Mystic Street at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Buffalo police Accident Investigation Unit Officer Richard Corsi said.
"Apparently there was a blowout of a tire . . .," Corsi said. "The driver lost control, hit the guardrail, and she (Ms. Kosmicki) fell off."
Ms. Kosmicki, who also suffered pelvic fractures and other injuries, was in fair condition later Sunday in Erie County Medical Center.
Castiglia suffered bruises and a possible fractured left leg and was taken to the medical center.
The crash occurred on Route 5 between Fuhrmann Boulevard and the Port of Buffalo. The Skyway was closed from shortly after the crash until 1:30 a.m.
