A memorial service for Wilfred G. "Bill" Rohring, 72, of Tamarac, Fla., a former Grand Island resident who was active in veterans groups, will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in Bible Presbyterian Church, 1650 Love Road, Grand Island. He was buried in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
Rohring died Aug. 11, 1999, of a heart attack in his Tamarac home.
He was born in Buffalo, grew up in Kenmore and served in the Army during World War II.
He was an active member of Chapter 168, Disabled American Veterans, and Post 9249, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He coached Little League baseball on Grand Island.
He moved to Florida in 1985.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Shirley M. Richards; three daughters, Sandra Meller of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Donna Maziarz and Patricia Woods, both of North Tonawanda; two sons, Wilfred Jr. of Grand Island and Laurence of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister, Dorothy Barron of Kenmore; a brother, Harold of Hot Springs, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
