Perfect Sting benefited from a perfect trip under Pat Day, coming from off the pace Sunday at Belmont to win the $200,000 Garden City Breeders' Cup by 2 1/2 lengths over the French filly Nordican Inch.

It was the first Grade I win for the 3-year-old daughter of Red Ransom, who was switched to the turf last year after two starts on dirt at the behest of owner Frank Stronach. Since then, Perfect Sting has won six of her nine starts on grass, with two seconds, and is 3 for 3 on the inner turf course at Belmont.

The second choice of the crowd of 8,177, Perfect Sting returned $8.60, $5.20 and $3. Nordican Inch paid $21.80 and $9.90. Ronda, a neck back, paid $3 for show.

"She struggled a bit with the turf being soft," Gary Stevens said of Ronda, the beaten favorite.
