CHARGES DEBATED IN BABY'S DEATH

A severely shaken baby boy died after two days in a coma, and authorities were weighing Saturday whether to bring homicide charges against the infant's 21-year-old father.

Alek James was removed from a life-support machine late Friday, the day he turned 5 months old. His father, Kristopher Schneeberger, is accused of shaking his son sometime before noon Thursday at his home. The boy was not breathing when police were summoned.

Schneeberger was charged with first-degree assault and was jailed on $25,000 bail. After the boy's death, police were deciding whether to press murder or manslaughter charges.
