Wegmans has every reason to be proud of its staff -- especially at the Transit Road store in Williamsville. Last week, while removing groceries from the shopping cart, my ring caught in the basket and the diamond in my 45-year-old engagement ring fell out.
Within seconds, the manager and several employees cordoned off the aisle, moved candy and magazine racks and helped me search the area -- all the while reassuring me and keeping me calm. After several minutes, it seemed hopeless and I began to despair.
Then, miraculously, a young clerk spotted the diamond on the floor and held up my precious stone -- which looked rather small out of its setting, but which had never looked so beautiful to me.
In all the confusion, I never got the names of the young men who came to my rescue. But I'd like them to know how much I appreciate their kindness and understanding. They are a fine example of the best of today's youth.
