Scott Crawford of Etobicoke, Ont., and Bernie Sigrist of West Hill, Ont., have transferred to Niagara University, men's hockey coach Blaise MacDonald announced on Friday.
Crawford, a 6-foot, 185-pound defenseman, played two seasons at Michigan. He was a member of the Wolverines' 1997-1998 national championship team. Sigrist, a 6-1, 189-pound forward, played last season at Northern Michigan University. He played in 28 games, including the Wildcats' loss to Boston College in the NCAAs.
"Both of these players have played in the NCAA Tournament with Scott winning the national championship while at Michigan," MacDonald said. "That is our goal at Niagara. By these two young men choosing Niagara over other established schools it is a testimony to the respect our program has nationally."
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Niagara dropped a 4-0 decision to the University of Toledo to fall to 0-4. . . . The University of Buffalo defeated Detroit Mercy, 5-1, behind three goals from freshman Elizabeth Pfeffer. Pfeffer opened the scoring in the 11th minute and added two second-half goals. WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Pittsburgh dominated visiting Niagara, 15-2, 15-10, 15-7, at the Fitzgerald Field House. Tricia Traczyk had seven kills and Krista Watterson added six for NU.
