A leak in a propane tank located outside the south side of Steele Hall on the Fredonia State College campus here resulted in the evacuation of that building and Dods Hall Thursday afternoon.
College officials reported that the man who uses the 250-pound capacity tank to fuel the college's Zamboni machine discovered the leak about 2:45 p.m. Both buildings were evacuated as a precaution.
The Fredonia Fire Department responded immediately. Chief Perry Mitchell measured oxygen levels in the area and found they were not near the point where the propane would explode.
By 4 p.m. people were allowed to return to the parking lots to remove their cars.
