Anthony O. Catherine, a retired Air Force Reservist and weapons mechanic at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base, died Monday (Sept. 6, 1999) in his Porter Road home after a brief illness. He was 73.
Catherine was born in Morrisdale, Pa. He was a 1945 graduate of Morris Township High School and later was graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology.
He served in the Army Air Forces during the closing months of World War II as a member of the 91st Depot Supply Squadron. He then became a weapons mechanic in the Air Force Reserve and was on active duty during the Korean War.
In the 1960s, Catherine moved to Rochester to attend RIT and while there was employed as an electronics technician at the former Stromberg-Carlson plant.
He moved to Niagara Falls in the early 1970s and worked for the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base as a weapons mechanic, until his retirement in 1986.
Following his retirement, he was employed as a sales clerk at Jenss department store and most recently had worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart on Porter Road.
Catherine was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Services will be held in Pennsylvania, and burial will be Monday in St. Agnes Cemetery in Morrisdale, Pa.
