The Schofield Residence, 3333 Elmwood Ave., Town of Tonawanda, could use help on weekday mornings in its occupational and physical therapy departments. Volunteers would transport residents in wheelchairs to appointments.
Several other positions are also available: friendly visiting, helping with recreational activities and clerical work and staffing the gift shop. Positions are also available in the Home Health Care offices, 2757 Elmwood Ave., Kenmore. Hours are flexible, based on the assignment. The Greater Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking volunteers for its ombudsman program which provides advocacy services for residents in long-term care facilities.
An ombudsman is certified to receive, investigate and resolve complaints made by or on behalf of patients and residents. The ombudsman visits the facility weekly to listen to concerns, to provide information about treatment and to encourage residents to express their opinions.
Individuals must be at least 21 years of age with interest and capability to fulfill the advocate's role, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. Training is provided. Call Carol Armao at 878-2385.
