Until just recently, Carol Hay was a typical busy elementary school principal.
Now, she is that and superintendent of the Panama Central School District.
Wednesday, Ms. Hay put in a hectic first day of school, and will have to continue doing so until a new elementary principal is on board Nov. 1st.
One of her major tasks is the district's $10.9 million building project.
"Now we're working with the architects and the construction people trying to get all of our plans finalized so they can be sent to the state education office," she said. "That's taken up a lot of the time this summer, and so far this school year."
Meanwhile, the search for her successor as principal continues. She said 12 candidates had applied by the Aug. 30 deadline.
"We'll be looking at those 12 candidates and doing some interviewing toward the end of the month, and hopefully we'll be able to appoint somebody in October with a starting date of at least Nov. 1," she said.
