PEDESTRIAN'S TRAFFIC DEATH ON BRIDGE IS RULED SUICIDE

A Wheatfield man died early Tuesday when he jumped in front of an oncoming tractor-trailer on the northbound North Grand Island Bridge, State Police Investigator Donald Rieger said.

Robert D. Tupper, 41, of Walmore Road was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:15 a.m. by Niagara County Coroner James M. Joyce. Joyce ruled the death a motor vehicle-pedestrian suicide.

The accident slowed traffic -- backing it up onto Grand Island -- which had to rerouted for about four hours.
