JURY SELECTION IN SLAYING BEGINS

Jury selection at John J. Schreier's murder trial for the alleged rape-revenge slaying of a Buffalo man began Tuesday before State Supreme Court Justice Penny M. Wolfgang.

Schreier, 26, has been jailed since his arrest in Portland, Ore., about a month after the March 15, 1998, slaying of Casey R. Kaminski.

He is charged along with David L. Milks, 25, with the fatal bludgeoning of Kaminski in Schreier's Claremont Street flat after he allegedly admitted raping a girl they all knew.

Milks, who also is behind bars, will stand trial later. Five days after the murder, Kaminski's body was found in a ditch off Steadman Road in the Wyoming County Town of Bennington, near property owned by Schreier's family. Two days after his body was discovered, police found Kaminski's car abandoned several blocks from Milks' apartment.
