Frances Harris, 73, an active churchwoman, died Sunday (Sept. 5, 1999) in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born Frances Freeman in Gadsden, Ala., she came to Buffalo around 1940. She was a child-care provider, housekeeper and factory worker.
Mrs. Harris was active in Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church and was one of the Senior Mothers. She enjoyed gospel music.
She also was active in Lady Hart Chapter 20, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a brother, Edgar B. Freeman II of Claxton, Ga.; three stepdaughters, Daisy Gilbert and Celestine Gilbert, both of Houston, and Mamie Gilbert; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon Thursday in Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church, 450 William St., with a wake at 11 a.m. Entombment will be in the Rosewood Atrium Mausoleum, Forest Lawn.
