ELECTRICAL SPARK, ARSON BLAMED FOR HOUSE FIRES

An intentionally set house fire on Wakefield Avenue Tuesday night caused $3,000 damage, while an accidental blaze 27 minutes later on Winspear Avenue caused $75,000 damage, fire officials said.

The 10:38 p.m. blaze on the first block of Wakefield occurred in a vacant 2 1/2 -story, wood-frame structure, and no injuries were reported, said firefighters.

The 11:05 p.m. fire on the first block of Winspear started in a second-floor bedroom in the 2 1/2 -story, wooden structure. A metal leg of a bed frame, set on top of an electrical extension cord, frayed the wire, causing a spark, which ignited bedding, fire investigators said.
