The Tonawanda City Council Tuesday night awarded a $218,000 contract to Triple R Development of Western New York to replace water lines on Grant and Ilion streets.
Work on the 2,600 feet of water lines is expected to begin within two weeks. Six-inch water lines will be replaced with 8-inch lines along all of Grant and on Ilion between Delaware Street and Amsterdam Avenue.
Service to 80 buildings will be switched to the new lines in about two months, according to Jason Zdrojewski, assistant civil engineer. While water pressure will not be affected dramatically, the flow available to fire lines will increase substantially, he said.
