WOMAN SEIZED AT BRIDGE ON COUNTERFEITING CHARGE

A Polish immigrant living in St. Catharines, Ont., was stopped at the Rainbow Bridge with $2,405 in counterfeit Canadian money, police reported Monday.

Police went to the bridge after receiving a call from Special Agent Daniel J. Mania of the Secret Service.

Barbara Wojtowicz, 21, was stopped in her Ford van on the bridge by a customs agent, Jason R. Yoder. A search of the car also turned up a locked briefcase containing five vehicle identification tags, police said.

Officer Jay Fisher Jr. said the woman was charged with felony possession of counterfeit money and felony possession of vehicle identification tags. She was held without bail on a detainer from the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
