A deal could be reached as soon as today that would turn the Louisville RiverBats into the Cincinnati Reds' Triple-A franchise, RiverBats President Gary Ulmer said.

Monday was the first day that major league teams and minor league franchises could discuss potential moves, under the rules of professional baseball.

For the RiverBats, a change would give Louisville its third major league affiliation in four seasons when the team starts playing downtown in new Louisville Slugger Field next season.

The Louisville franchise was affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals from 1982 to 1997, before the Milwaukee Brewers took over.
