Jeanne C. Scherer, 71, of West Seneca, a nurse, teacher and author, died Friday (Sept. 3, 1999) in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.
A nurse or nursing instructor for more than 40 years, Miss Scherer retired in 1995, after also working as a nursing consultant for nearly 10 years.
Earlier she was assistant director and medical-surgical nursing coordinator at Sisters Hospital for 10 years and a clinical instructor at Sisters Hospital School of Nursing for another 10 years.
She began her nursing career in 1954, working as a staff nurse at various hospitals until 1966.
Miss Scherer had a registered nursing degree from the Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing, a bachelor's degree in nursing from D'Youville College and a master's degree from Canisius College.
She was the author of "Introductory Clinical Pharmacology," "Introductory Medical-Surgical Nursing" and "Lippincott's Nurses' Drug Manual."
She was listed in "Who's Who of American Women," "Who's Who of Medicine & Health Care," "Who's Who of American Nursing," "Who's Who in Society," "Who's Who in America," "Who's Who in American Education" and "Who's Who in the World."
A native of Buffalo, Miss Scherer was a member of the Western New York League for Nursing.
She was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in West Seneca.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, St. Francis Drive, Athol Springs. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
