A former Olcott man fatally shot his wife, wounded her boyfriend and then killed himself Saturday on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, where he was stationed with the Navy.
Police said Richard Donovan, 30, first shot an unidentified 27-year-old man in the chest and then killed his wife, Mary Jane, 28, outside the man's apartment in the community of Waipahu.
After the shootings, Donovan, the son of Betty J. Donovan of Olcott, drove to his home in the nearby Iroquois Point Navy housing area and took his own life, police said.
Mrs. Donovan's boyfriend, whose name was not released by authorities, was listed in critical but stable condition in Queen's Medical Center, Honolulu.
Investigators said Mrs. Donovan, who is from the Philippines, was in the process of divorcing her husband and frequently stayed with her boyfriend, who is the father of her 15-month-old son, police said.
Police said there had been no previous reports of domestic problems between the couple.
The Donovans' 6-year-old son and the 15-month-old child are being cared for by a friend.
The Navy said Donovan had been in the service since 1988 and had been stationed in Hawaii since 1996.
He had been assigned as a diver on a salvage ship and recently was a diving instructor at the Navy's submarine training center at Pearl Harbor.
