An American bodyguard of Saudi Prince Turk bin Abd el Aziz has been sentenced to a year in prison for punching an Egyptian chef in the face, court sources said.
The misdemeanor court of the central Cairo district of Bulaq also ordered the payment of a $1,458 fine and $150 temporary compensation order for Ahmed Mohamed, the victim, the maximum penalty for that type of offence.
The ruling was issued in the absence of defendant Miguel Mata, who has yet to be arrested, the sources said. The ruling on temporary compensation opens the way for the victim to seek further compensation through the courts.
The prince, his wife and their entourage have occupied three floors in Cairo's five-star Ramses Hilton Hotel for almost nine years.
