Driving accidents across the state have claimed the lives of four people so far during the Labor Day weekend.
Jason Howard, an 18-year-old college student from Mexico, N.Y., died Saturday afternoon from injuries suffered Friday when his car went off the road in Oswego County, deputies said.
Alcohol and excessive speed were believed to have contributed to the accident.
An Elmira Heights man died Saturday morning in a two-car accident in Livingston County. James H. Bassage, 75, was killed. His son, Thomas Bassage, was charged with failing to yield at a stop sign. The Bassage vehicle was struck by a car driven by 21-year-old Aaron Gibson at an intersection in the Town of Nunda, state police said.
Separate accidents killed two people Saturday in Warren County.
Andrzej Niski, 43, of London, Ont. He was pronounced dead at the scene after his motorcycle went off the road at a curve and struck several trees.
A Warren County man died when his car rolled on top of him in a one-car accident. Emergency crews were unable to revive 29-year-old Robert Walker Jr. after freeing him from underneath his car at about 7 a.m. in the Town of Johnsburg.
