2 LIBRARIES GET STATE LITERACY GRANTS

TWO WESTERN NEW YORK LIBRARIES

the Amherst Public Library and the Paterson Library in Westfield -- have been awarded Adult Literary Services grants from the New York State Library in Albany.

The funding will help the libraries serve adults who read below sixth-grade level.

The Paterson Library will receive $1,607 for a family literacy program in conjunction with Literacy Volunteers of America in Chautauqua County.

The Amherst Public Library received $17,595 to help its four branch libraries work cooperatively with local school districts and Literacy Volunteers of America of Buffalo and Erie County. The agencies will recruit students and train tutors to help immigrants speak and read English.
