Verna Q. Whitmore, 81, a retired teacher, died Friday (Sept. 3, 1999) at her home.

She was a lifelong resident of Silver Springs and graduated from Silver Springs High School in 1935 and Geneseo Normal School in 1938.

During her career, she taught at South Warsaw Rural School, Castile High School and Letchworth Central School for a total of 29 years. She retired in 1977.

She was a member of Silver Springs United Methodist Church, the Wyoming County Retired Teachers Association and the former Silver Springs Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles W.; a daughter, Janice K. of Monroeville, Pa.; a sister, Thelma Hume of Silver Springs; and a granddaughter.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Silver Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Silver Springs.
