Gladys W. Knepflar, 92, a former teacher, died Aug. 28, 1999, in Mercy Hospital. She had been ill since a serious fall in March.
The former Gladys Weir was born and raised in Springville and graduated from Griffith Institute. She graduated with honors in 1928 from Buffalo State Teachers College, where she received several honors, including the Elizabeth Bishop Award for student activities.
She taught for one year in the Buffalo schools and was a substitute teacher in Springville.
She married John C. Knepflar in 1929, and they spent most of the their married life in Springville, where she was active in the Methodist Church, 20th Century Club and bridge clubs and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
After her husband's death in 1972, she moved to Hamburg, where she was a member of the Hamburg Women's Club and Hamburg United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Connie Johns of Hamburg; a granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hamburg United Methodist Church, 116 Union St. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Springville.
