A contest for Republican backing for a seat on the Genesee County Legislature tops the four primary election ballots, all on the GOP line.

Esther G. Leadley of Pavilion, who was appointed to represent Alexander, Bethany and Pavilion on the Legislature to succeed new Assemblyman Daniel J. Burling, is running against William J. Wagner of Alexander for the 6th District seat.

In the only other countywide race, LaVern C. Falcone of Le Roy is seeking party support over Jack E. Taylor of Batavia for coroner. Falcone needs to win to be on the November ballot. Taylor is the Conservative and Independent parties' candidate. The Democrats have nominated Terry Thompson of Alabama.

The Town of Byron has two GOP contests. David W. George, Charles L. Durkee and James W. Lamkin are candidates for town justice. Donald L. Cudney and Harold W. Austin are vying for the Republican line for superintendent of highways.

Voting is from noon to 9 p.m. Sept. 14.
