Today's mail brought an election flyer from County Executive Gorski. It attempted to scare me to vote for Gorski, offering these reasons:
Joel Giambra wants to ". . . merge the City of Buffalo with Erie County." Giambra wants to ". . . merge school districts and create countywide magnet schools." Giambra wants to ". . . merge the Buffalo police with the Erie County sheriff and supports the consolidation of village and town police departments."
As a City of Buffalo resident, my fondest hope is that Erie County will have us. We need to merge for efficiency, effectiveness and financial advantage. Parochial politics may have been great for the 19th century. But the 21st century will require much more forward thinking. If backward is the best Gorski and his pols have to offer, then Giambra is beginning to look good.
