A Gasport man charged in a December 1997 road rage incident was convicted Friday of assault, criminal mischief and harassment charges following a 2 1/2 -day trial.
Robert Lee Harte, 40, of East Avenue, was arrested in February 1998. He was accused of following motorist Michael Riggle of Buffalo in the passing lane of South Transit Road in Lockport for about two miles, then into a fast-food restaurant parking lot, where he sprayed him with pepper spray and attacked him -- apparently because he been driving too slowly, according to Town Justice John P. Teixeira.
The trial was transferred from Lockport to the Town of Niagara because the Lockport town justices disqualified themselves.
Sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 21. Defense attorney Mark Grossman said he plans to appeal the conviction.
