Niagara Regional Police converged Friday on a Lundy's Lane motel, where they arrested a man accused of robbing five local banks in the last two weeks.
George Richard Milewicz, 22, of no permanent address, was held for a bail hearing scheduled for today, authorities said. He faces five counts of armed robbery.
Between Aug. 20 and Thursday, the banks were held up by a lone robber who passed a note to the teller, demanding money and indicating the person had a gun, police said. No gun ever was displayed.
Friday morning, police received a Crime Stoppers tip regarding a person wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear in court on stolen property charges. Police found that the photo of the individual matched that of the bank robber.
