A 6-year-old boy's father, accused of fatally shooting his former wife's boyfriend for failing to take proper care of the child, was charged with murder Friday.
Terrell Giles Sr. told police he was driving near the boyfriend's home Thursday when he saw his son playing alone near an intersection and became "alarmed and upset" that the boy was unattended.
Giles, 24, said he went with his son to Saeed Saadiq's home, where a quarrel erupted and Saeed was shot in the head and leg. Saadiq, also 24, alerted police by calling 911. He died within an hour of being found.
The boy, who apparently witnessed the shooting, had vanished from the house by the time police officers showed up. They began a search of the neighborhood and located him about three hours later at a relative's home.
