Longtime Buffalo resident Dorothy Amy Ryder died Aug. 11, 1999, in her Weston, W. Va., home after a short illness. She was 80.
A New York City native, Mrs. Ryder moved from the Buffalo area to West Virginia 20 years ago. She had lived in both Sloan and Buffalo.
Mrs. Ryder enjoyed embroidery and donated her craft work for charitable causes. She also was a hospital and senior citizens center volunteer.
She was the widow of Andrew Ryder, who died in 1977.
Survivors include her husband, John VanKirk of Weston; one daughter, Patricia VanKirk of Weston; two sons, Andrew of Alexandria, Va., and Richard; one stepdaughter, Jane Cieri; and 44 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ryder was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, Weston, where a memorial service was held Aug. 15.
