Just because the Houston Comets are on the brink of their third championship in the WNBA's third season doesn't mean coach Van Chancellor has suddenly become an optimist.
Overconfidence "was one of my greatest concerns coming into today's practice," Chancellor said Friday. "When I left New York this morning, needless to say I came in here and kind of got after them, but they had just great focus.
"In three years, I have to say there have not been many times they have come in here and been overconfident."
As the Comets head into what could be a deciding second game of their best-of-three series with the New York Liberty today (3:30 p.m., Ch. 2), they seem to have every reason in the world to expect a victory.
Houston is 34-2 at home the last two seasons and has never lost a playoff game on its home court.
