A robber told a teller he had a gun at about 7:35 p.m. Wednesday and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash from the Canada Trust bank branch at 3643 Portage Road, Niagara Regional Police report.
The robber did not display a weapon, police said. He was described as a white man in his 20s with dark brown hair, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 175 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a T-shirt and dark sunglasses. Police said he fit the description of a suspect in three previous bank robberies here in the past two weeks.
It was the second bank robbery in the Niagara Falls area in two days, apparently by the same holdup man.
A robber gave a teller a note claiming he had a gun at about 5 p.m. Tuesday and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the Niagara Credit Union, 1561 Niagara Stone Road, Virgil. No weapon was seen, police said.
Police have offered bank security videotapes of the robberies to local television stations in hopes that viewers may be able to identify the robber.
