SEMPER FI -- More than 500 veterans and guests are expected to attend the Sixth Marine Division Association's annual reunion in Buffalo Sunday through Sept. 12 at the Adam's Mark Hotel.

The famous Leatherneck division had the unique record of never seeing duty in the United States during the entire 19 months of its existence during World War II. It was first assembled at Guadalcanal in September 1944. In addition to swapping war stories with old buddies, the visiting members of the Sixth Marines will cruise the Niagara River and Black Rock Canal and take trips to Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake. The reunion will close with a memorial service at the Buffalo Naval and Military Park at 11 a.m. Sept. 11, according to Constance Miller of Corfu and Stanley Bolas of West Seneca. John J. Foley of Greentown, Pa., is the reunion chairman, and Thomas McKinney of Erwin, N.C., is the association's president. . . .

September Song
Summer will be over soon

I feel a poem coming on

about regrets for chances

to celebrate now gone.

For sunny days I spent indoors

For breezes that I missed

For flowers that I didn't smell

For friends I never kissed.

For picnic tables that were bare

For ice chests that were dry

For parties that we didn't give

And now I ask just why

I didn't seize each day I could

I let them slip away.

Oh how I wish when summer is gone

For one more precious day.
